Business Start-Up Guide to Digital

This blog will have everything you need in order to get your new business venture, a place on the internet.

From branding, to domain names and email addresses, we’ll run through the basics of getting your brand online!

Start-Up by Registering your Domain

Taking your brand online…

When you’re in the branding process of your start-up, there should be a number of standard priorities, like:

  • Does my brand get across what I want the business to represent?
  • Am I using capturing imagery/slogans?

However, there is one priority that we think needs to be met, before any other questions:

  • Are my domain name and social media handlers available?

Think about it! Why bother channelling your energy into ideas for a brand name, which isn’t available for your website/social media?

By using our domain name checker, you can start your search for your brand!

Then check if the username is available on Twitter etc.

Some Quick Q&A’s

“What is a domain name?”

A domain name is a way of identifying pages on the internet. Domain names typically are a string of words, followed by a .co.uk or a .com ending. When a user visits your domain name, they’ll be directed to your website.

“How do I get my own domain name?”

Domain names are available to register from various providers – similarly to purchasing line rental or television packages etc – they are available for a number of providers. Here at Broadband Cloud Solutions, we do exactly that!

“What are social media handlers?”

Social media handlers are simply your links to your social media channels. For example, your twitter handle would be your username with the @ sign. Our twitter handle is @BroadbandCloud. Our Facebook handler is just Broadband Cloud Solutions. Your username for your business twitter account, will become your Twitter handler.

Get Set, Email!

Communicating in the digital world…

In 2016, most businesses use a professional email address, which ties in with their branding – and so should you! Custom domain name email addresses are much more professional than a standard @hotmail.com, @yahoo.com or @gmail.com. All you need to get up and running is:

More Quick Q&A’s

“What is a hosting account?”

A hosting account is simply space on a server. Almost like your own folder within a computer – somewhere where you can save your stuff. In this case, your stuff would be your website files and emails.

“How do I get myself a hosting account?”

Simply choose one of our hosting packages, when you go to order your domain name via our website. Or if you already have the domain registered with us, drop us an email to info@broadbandcloudsolutions.co.uk.

Use ‘startup25‘ for 25% off a domain and hosting account with us, for the first year*

*Price will then revert to normal pricing structure upon renewal.

“How do I set up my email accounts once I have my domain and hosting?”

Using our services, you can log into your control panel, normally by visiting your domain name and adding a /cpanel at the end of the URL, before you click search! This brings up your login page, where you can log in with your username and password (which we will have provided you with). From here, click ‘Email Accounts’ and then fill out the form at the top of the page. The ‘username’ becomes the prefix of the email address.

i.e. The username, “hello“, would become hello@yourdomain.co.uk

However we are always available to guide you through this – just get in touch.

Publish Your Site

Show the world, what your business does…

Ok so this is the final piece of the jigsaw! You have your domain name(s), hosting account, email addresses, etc. You are ready to raise your online presence!

Manage your Start-Up site's content with WordPress

In our opinion, the easiest and most efficient way of getting a basic website together is to use WordPress. At first look, WordPress may seem scary, however it’s not! WordPress is what’s known as a Content Management System (or CMS). This basically means that WordPress handles all the hard work – coding and building your website – all you need to do is to add/manage the content.

“So how do I get WordPress to run my website?”

Ok, here at Broadband Cloud Solutions, we’ve made this super easy. Within your hosting control panel, we’ve included a handly little tool called “Fantstico DeLuxe” – which will install WordPress for you. Simply click “Fantastico DeLuxe”, then click “WordPress” from the menu on the left hand side and follow the on-screen instructions.

Again if you need some help, our team will be more than happy to guide you – just get in touch.
